Before I get into that - here's a preview of Defenders #4 - hitting stands on 3/7:
It’s the book that MTV says is “big, bold and bravura work” and we have your first look at Defenders #4! From the creative team of Matt Fraction and Michael Lark, Doctor Strange embarks on an all new mission after discovering the mysterious Concordance Engine! Can the former Sorcerer Supreme unlock it’s secrets without damaging the very fabric of the Marvel Universe? Find out in Defenders #4, hitting store shelves and the Marvel Comics app everywhere this March!
OK - now that THAT'S out of the way - here's why I like the book:
1. I love the team. (You had me at "Iron Fist"). I've even grown to accept Red She-Hulk. (Damn you, Loeb!!)
2. I like the style. Both writing and art seem to work well together.
So if I like those two main elements - why am I considering dropping the book from my pull list? This is why:
See those words at the bottom of the page? They have absoultely nothing to do with the story. It's an ad. And there is an ad like this on every single page:
Totally breaks up the flow while reading. VERY annoying. To the point where I may drop this book and wait for the collected edition. (And lordy I HOPE TO GOG that they cut these stupid ads out of the TPB.)
I think Marvel thinks its cute, because the style of the book = a little tongue-in-cheek humor. But it's just distracting when its on EVERY SINGLE PAGE. So it needs to stop. You hear me, Marvel?
I dropped it after the first issue. Mainly due to the weird ads and teasers you described, but also because I'm really not digging the way Strange is being written as more Tony Stark playboyish. It really bothered me.

Yeah - I totally see why the Strange thing will bug some people. I kinda like it, but I know it's a bit of a stretch. But those ads...why in the name of all that is good...
My fear is that they are using this is a testing ground, and soon all Marvel comics will have these annoying little ads.
