It's semi-public knowledge that Stan Lee has not had the best relationship with the organizers of Comic-Con. He's been making his personal appearances everywhere BUT the Wonder-Con and Comic-Con conventions. Which means he really hasn't been hitting big conventions in California.
But that's about to change. Lee has signed on to launch his OWN comic convention:
"Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo Presented by POW! Entertainment" launches in Los Angeles in September and is expected to spread with shows around the world, according to Lee and his "partner in crime" Regina Carpinelli.
Given the success of ImageExpo, I have no doubt this smaller convention will be a hit. In fact, with Comic-con long sold-out, Comikaze will be a fantastic alternative for fans who couldn't get in (or, like me, simply don't dig the hastle of attending San Diego's massive entertainment-fest).
Sad to say, but Stan's not going to be around forever (unless he gets bitten by a radioactive spider), so if you haven't met him yet, you should get on it. Like the video says, he's the Walt Disney of our generation!
I bumped into Stan Lee (literally) a few years ago at Comic Con (I believe it was for the promo of Iron man 2) on the floor as his handlers were rushing him through the crowd. Stan's been to Comic con enough (he gets paid enough to appear anyway) anyway. Frankly, I'm just disappointed some of the REAL creators of Marvel's works haven't survived as long as he has. I'd stand in a line for a few hours just to meet Kirby or Ditko, but not Stan. But then again, I'm more partial to artists than writers anyway. As far as I'm concerned, Stan takes far too much credit for work done by others that aren't around anymore to say otherwise.

So you don't think Stan Lee is a real creator of Marvel characters? You may stand alone there!

I think it was much more collaborative than Stan says it was. Especially given that they were all sitting in the same room (writers and artists). You put people in a room and give them a deadline, ideas get bounced back and forth from everyone, not just one person. Given that Kirby went off and created DC's cosmic universe characters, not to mention Cap, Hulk, X-Men, Thor, Silver surfer, Galactus, the Inhumans, Black Panther, etc., it's not far fetched to see that Stan has taken a bigger chunk of the credit than he should've over the years.
Just like I'm fairly sure Ditko had more to do with the creation of Spidey, than Stan. Yes, I know, heresy.
