It's been a year since DC launched its New 52. Over the next few
weeks, I'll be reviewing the run so far for some of these titles and
I'll make a recommendation - should you jump on with the upcoming
release of the title's Issue #0 next month? Or should you skip it?
Does the title of this book sound like a candy bar to you? Yeah, to me too.
Lucky for it, it's sweet like a candy bar. And - extending the metaphore even further - not unlike an Almond Joy, it's got nuts. Specifically, almost every member of the team is a little "off" in on sense or another. And almost every member of the team works better alone. Yet this group still comes together when needed, and that's fun to watch.
Sexy magician Zatanna is probably the most stable of the group. She (usually) manages to rise above teammate John Constantine's ego and Shade's impending insanity. Madame Xanadu is their "Professor X", so to speak - but she's not the kind of leader a team has a lot of trust in...it seems she causes more problems than she solves.
With its dark tone, lack of "staple" characters, and moody art, his book isn't for everyone. And maybe that's one of the reasons I like it so much.
Recommendation: Jump On
