It's been a year since DC launched its New 52. Over the next few weeks, I'll be reviewing the run so far for some of these titles and I'll make a recommendation - should you jump on with the upcoming release of the title's Issue #0 next month? Or should you skip it?
I'll just come right out and say it - Suicide Squad was one of the more pleasant surprises to come out of the New 52. It's not that I expected it to be bad. I just didn't expect it to be so much of a rush.
The Suicide Squad premise is pretty similar to previous incarnations of the team - Amanda Waller puts together super criminals to run covert missions that often end in lots of people being dead. The New 52 version has a nice balance of humor, violence, and attitude that is helped along by a few very strong charatcers, including Deadshot, Harley Quinn, El Diablo, and King Shark (who is AWESOME!!).
The first 6 issues barely give readers a chance to breath. Every-other-issue, a team member dies and there is no rest for our "heroes". Writer Adam Glass (Deadpool) sets a great pace. Even beyond issue 6, at the end of each book he leaves you wanting for the next. I won't go as far as saying it's the best of the New 52 - it's not. But it could be the most fun.
Recommendation: Jump On
