Over the weekend I saw a press release for ComicSwap.com - a site aiming to become "the go-to site for comic book fans looking to buy, sell or trade comics online". The idea is that you list what you have or want, then pay 6% if money is involved. If it's just a trade, everything is free.
I've seen sites like this in the past for other forms of media - DVDs, CDs, video games. They all seem like a good idea, most come off as a little "rinky dink", but a few of them actually last a while.
After checking out ComicSwap.com, I'd say it definitely falls in the "rinky dink" category - there are only 4 items up! But who knows - this site apparently just went up, so maybe a little PR, and BAM! we've got a new ebay for comics.
Of course, if they want users, they'll need to build trust. So they should probably remove the first post on their onsite blog, which reads, "Hello world! Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!".
This could be a good idea, but they'll need to work hard to get it off the ground...
